Celebrating Marin's Journey: From Long-View to University of Washington

We are thrilled to spotlight Marin, one of our remarkable Long-View graduates from the Class of 2020, as she embarks on her new adventure this fall at The University of Washington, where she will be on the rowing team and major in business. Marin's journey from our halls to the vibrant campus in Seattle is a testament to her resilience, passion, and commitment to personal growth and excellence.

Marin's story took an exciting turn after her participation in the Long-View Cardboard Boat Regatta, where she discovered a new interest in rowing. Before that, Marin explored various sports, never quite settling on one. The regatta sparked a curiosity that led her to a summer rowing program, an experience she describes as humbling and transformative. Her initial apprehensions about competition—rooted in a fear of losing—gave way to a newfound confidence as she joined the novice crew and found joy in the sport.

When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Marin's determination only grew stronger. She committed to daily workouts, embracing the challenge and using it as an opportunity to hone her skills. Rowing became more than just a sport; it was a catalyst for building confidence and resilience. Today, Marin rows with the Texas Rowing Center, a club rowing program where she trains six days a week, often twice a day. Her dedication and hard work have not only made her a stronger athlete but also a leader, serving as the team captain and inspiring others with her journey.

Marin's high school years at the Liberal Arts and Science Academy (LASA) were equally impressive. Her freshman year, conducted entirely online, posed unique challenges, but Marin navigated them with grace, immersing herself in engineering classes and Sci Tech. As a sophomore, she thrived in AP World History and embraced the return to in-person learning. By her junior year, Marin was taking on the toughest physics courses and participating in the fire academy, all while winning an art award in a congressional district competition. Her senior year was marked by a internship at a private equity firm, where she utilized AI to train ChatGPT and create a newsletter about artificial intelligence.

At The University of Washington, Marin plans to major in business, drawn by the institution's renowned entrepreneurship program. Her drive to excel and her passion for innovation make this a perfect fit. Marin's journey from Long-View to UW is not just a story of academic and athletic achievement but also one of personal growth and the power of perseverance.

We are incredibly proud of Marin and excited to see her continue to shine as she “rows” her way to new horizons.
