Marina Flider

Ph.D. Comparative Literature

B.A. English

Marina has extensive knowledge in analyzing and writing about literature, having completed her dissertation research on contemporary literature, culture and politics in Russia, Middle East, and The Balkans. Marina has taught American, British, and World literature at several universities in addition to teaching at a middle school for gifted children. Marina leads Literacy Block, helps our eighth graders with the high school placement process, and runs our History Club.

Elizabeth Bayer Morgan

Ed.M. Learning and Teaching

B.A. Sociology

Elizabeth has spent her career teaching in independent schools, working with students in kindergarten through 8th grades. Before coming to Long-View she served in an administrative role, building student programs and a fellowship program to support novice teachers. Elizabeth spearheads our Cardboard Boat Regatta and social media team, while also supporting assessment & intervention efforts. Elizabeth was the first full-time teacher hired by the founders of Long-View.

John Cooley

M.A.T. 5-8 Grade General Science

B.A. Philosophy; B.A. English

John came to Long-View with extensive experience in youth mentorship. Prior to Long-View, he was a Teach for America Corps Member and taught middle school science at a charter school. He now leads Science Block for two Long-View bands and mentors learners taking part in the state science fair. During the morning he can often be found supporting kids working in our MakerSpace or co-leading our History Club. John is also a passionate birder who has inspired many of us to pull out our binoculars and field guides while at lunch at Pease Park.

Bailey Bartee

B.S. Mathematics

Bailey leads Math Block and is a member of The Number Lab team. Prior to joining Long-View, Bailey participated in the rigorous UTeach program through UT’s College of Natural Sciences, interned in our classrooms for four years, and traveled out of state to coach math teachers in other districts as part of The Number Lab’s summer [Co]lab workshops. In addition to leading one band’s Math Block, Bailey lends her expertise to Open Math and AfterMath and coordinates our early-math assessment and intervention program.

 

Kelly Winchester

M.Ed. Science Education

B.S. Chemistry

Kelly leads Science Block and supports our young scientists through the science fair. Three Long-View learners have made it to the national science fair under Kelly’s mentorship. Kelly's previous experience includes teaching chemistry, environmental science, and forensics at the high school level for an IB school while serving as science department chair for grades 6-12. She has National Board Certification in Chemistry and loves mathematics, having minored in it as an undergraduate.

Aiden Escamilla

B.S. Computer Science

Aiden teaches Computer Science to all bands. Prior to coming to Long-View, Aiden was a software engineer working on backend solutions using Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL and crafting front-end interfaces using HTML and JavaScript at a financial tech startup. Aiden is deeply interested in machine learning and natural language processing, as well as song-writing and birding. He regularly lends his tech and data management skills to our team to keep things running smoothly.

Eryn Frank

M.S. Curriculum and Instruction

B.S. Education

With over a decade of experience in education, Eryn has taught children in third through sixth grades, been a Gifted Specialist, served as a mentor for novice teachers, and presented at state-wide conferences. She has experience evaluating curriculum and training teachers, including training teachers on deeper learning models to promote student-centered learning. At Long-View Eryn leads Literacy Block, oversees our Library Guild, assesses incoming learners, and is part of the team that keeps our library running smoothly. Not surprisingly, reading is her favorite pastime.

Lisa Zapalac

M.A. English

B.A. English

Before serving as an elementary principal and co-founding Long-View, Lisa taught high school English, middle school mathematics, and elementary self-contained classrooms in both public and private schools. Lisa’s leadership experience includes ensuring high-quality instruction, managing growth, coaching teachers, and overseeing all aspects of school life. She frequently speaks on innovation in schools and leads professional development for mathematics educators. Lisa is one of the founders of Long-View and heads up daily school operations.

 

Eric Mann

M.S. Applied Mathematics

B.S. Mathematics

Eric has experience as a computer engineer at National Instruments, teaching experience at the middle school and high school levels, and curriculum writing experience at three publishing companies. He has also served in various school leadership roles, including principal of a local high school. Eric leads Math Block, helps our eighth graders with the high school placement process, and is part of The Number Lab team, providing workshops for math teachers across the country.

Dorothy Meiburg Weller

M.A. Creative Writing

B.A. English

Dorothy taught high school English courses for over ten years before joining Long-View to lead Literacy Block. She has also worked as a consultant with the Heart of Texas Writing Project, leading workshops and presenting at national and state conventions and is currently completing a novel geared toward middle schoolers. Dorothy spearheads our blog, leads highly popular Campfires, and runs morning writing workshops focused on poetry, novel writing, and grammar.

Claire Rudden

M.Ed. Math Education

B.A. Psychology and Statistics

After working with children of diverse learning needs and socioeconomic backgrounds in Delaware, Claire taught middle school mathematics at a local private school, where she planned and implemented curriculum for every grade level and reviewed and selected new math curriculum for grades K-8.  Claire has also served as a research assistant conducting research on how children think, learn, and solve problems in mathematics. Claire leads Math Block, supports our Open Math and AfterMath, and runs our visual-spatial assessment & intervention program.

Kevin Moore

M.S. Education

B.A. Interdisciplinary Studies

Kevin has 30 years of experience teaching math in middle and elementary at both public and private schools and has provided coaching on effective instructional practices for the teaching of mathematics to hundreds of teachers. Kevin is one of the founders of Long-View; his day-to-day work is focused on traveling to coach teachers part of The Number Lab, writing, developing curriculum, and leading workshops, especially the [Co]lab, which draws teachers from all over the US eager to learn how to raise the level of math instruction in their classrooms.

 

Kaylie White

M.Ed. Education Technology

B.A. Education

Kaylie leads Math Block. Before joining Long-View she taught in self-contained classrooms in a large public district where she won two teaching awards. Kaylie is interested in assessment and often puts her video editing skills to use when collecting artifacts of student work or documenting instruction in our classrooms. Kaylie runs Big + Little Math, lends her expertise in tools/construction to Build Week challenges, and is part of The Number Lab team.

Rebecca Andersson

M.Ed. Reading Development

B.S. Elementary Education and Educational Psychology & B.A. Design

Rebecca has over 20 years of experience in public and private schools. She has taught elementary and middle school, served as a Literacy Specialist, and worked as a Dean of Students. At Long-View Rebecca often runs morning book clubs, coaches learners across disciplines, and conducts literacy assessments. She also oversees our facility, makes many of our events happen, and is the point person for after-school classes.

Jaclyn Fleury

B.S. Applied Learning & Development

Jaclyn leads Literacy Block. Prior to joining our team, she taught in large districts in Texas, where she was nominated for and received multiple teaching awards. Jaclyn also taught at a private school in Bucaramanga, Colombia, where 100% of her students were English language learners. At Long-View Jaclyn coordinates our reading assessment program, lends her expertise in phonics and handwriting instruction to Long-View’s youngest learners, supports our social media efforts, and takes an active role in planning for our new student camp in August.

Cathy Lewis

B.S. Education

Cathy has devoted most of her career to elevating math instruction at public and private schools. She served as a mathematics teacher in first through fifth grades and led teams of teachers as a Math Specialist. Her areas of expertise are curriculum development, assessment, and parent education. Cathy is one of the founders of Long-View, puts her math skills to work by running our finances and budget, and is the point person for The Number Lab, helping educators and school leaders accelerate mathematics learning at their schools through long-term partnerships.
